VIRN Wants To Keep Manitobans Informed
"No, we do not do telemarketing."

Vic Pereira, Vision Impaired Resource Network (VIRN)'s Board Chair, said "We (VIRN) continue to receive inquiries about donations made to CCB in Ottawa. As far as we know, CCB is not running any programs or activities in Manitoba for people who are vision impaired."

The Vision Impaired Resource Network (VIRN) Inc formerly Canadian Council of the Blind Manitoba Division Inc. (CCB MB) focused its mandate and changed its name in June 2011. VIRN continues to provide a variety of programs and activities in Manitoba for people who are vision impaired. Many people have been asking if we are doing a telemarketing campaign here in Manitoba. "The answer is no, we are not and we feel Manitobans need to be informed." says Doris Koop, Executive Director.

The name change was long overdue and we thought that now there would be less confusion between VIRN and other organizations that have similar words and acronyms as our former name (CCB MB). However, we are still receiving calls from Manitobans who are asking for receipts for money that they have donated through a telemarketing campaign. They are very upset and think that it is our organization doing the telemarketing and asking for money for Computers for Kids who are Blind as well as other programs.

Please, before you donate, ask questions and make sure you know where your money is really going.

VIRN is a registered charity and all money raised in Manitoba is spent on programs and activities for people living in our province. These programs and activities fall within VIRN’s core building blocks of peer support, active living, training and public education. Often these building blocks overlap and range from fitness & recreation, social interaction, adaptive technology & training, presentations and more.
